A Meta-Analysis of the Effectiveness of Group Art Therapy for Adolescents

|
The purpose of this study is The purpose of this study is to investigate the effectiveness of group art therapy targeting adolescents, and provide basic data based on comprehensive and scientific evidence for therapeutic intervention in the adolescents issues. For this, a total of 100 papers including master¡¯s theses, doctoral dissertations, and academic journals published in Korea from 1998 to August 2020 were selected as the final targets for meta-analysis, and the results were as follows. First, the overall average effect size of group art therapy targeting adolescents is 0.624, which is a statistically significant effect size. Second, there was no statistically significant difference in effect sizes according to the characteristics of the study subjects and intervention characteristics. Third, among the dependent variables, sociality showed the greatest effect size, the following appeared in the order of self, adaptation and maladjustment, learning and career, and emotion, and the difference in effect size was statistically significant. This study is meaningful in that it synthesized and analyzed individual research results, presented the basis for group art therapy for adolescents, and suggested the direction of clinical trials and research.
